When most people think of Honolulu, especially when it comes to food, the first things to come to mind are likely to be roast pig, pineapple, and maybe spam. To be sure, these are a part of the Hawaiian diet, and they’re the stuff that makes the tourists happy. For any tourist of any walk of life, there are many local experiences to have here, and any local experience is going to be authentic, just because it is Honolulu. Luxury hotels are part of the idea of the perfect getaway, and all the typical trimmings at a luau can make the trip a good one.

If too much of the local thing becomes more than enough, there are other succulent pleasures here as well. For those who might be around long enough to miss a good hot dog, or for anyone who just happens to like a great dog, there is an authentic Chicago place here, called Hank’s Haute Dogs . There’s more than the Chicago-style wiener here, with brats and polish sausage, and a wide range of choices that do speak to the best of this industry. But the best thing about them is that they are not only authentic Chicago dogs, but Honolulu dogs, too. Hank grew up here, before moving to Chicago, and he moved back to bring the best of both worlds with him.
