Halloween is one of the favorite holidays for many people and even if it is not your top number one option, it is loved and celebrated to the extreme by people from all over the country. Children love to dress up and comb the neighborhood for trick or treat options and candy finding opportunities. And adults love to dress up their young children and sometimes even their pets and parade them around for all to see and enjoy. And many adults even like to get in on the fun and dress up in a costume to hand out candy or to make an appearance at a Halloween party .
And for this reason, the amount of adult and plus size Halloween costumes options that are on the shelves and isles of many stores across the country beginning in early October, and sometimes even September these days increase in numbers every year. And there are just as many different styles, characters and theme-oriented costumes for adults as there are for children, and sometimes even more. With this in mind there is also an awareness that sometimes adult tastes vary from those of young children and while it might be difficult to find a lady bug costume for an adult you can be certain there is one out there somewhere. So this October 31st, get in costume and really enjoy the holiday.
The legacy of a writer is a complex thing. Most of the time, successful writers are credited with inventing worlds that come from their imaginations. They create stories that are woven from their observations about human behavior, and generally these stories are perceived to come from their own perspectives. There are plenty of theories around that suggest that a writer is much more than an individual imagination, and that the work is always connected to their own place in history. This notion helps to illuminate some of the more complex works in literature, and has given Uncle Remus another life.
The creation of Joel Chandler Harris at the end of the 19th century has enjoyed and suffered praise and criticism, and it seems to come and go in a cyclical manner. These days, people visiting the city of Atlanta can take a tour of The Wren’s Nest , his home here, which was restored and now serves as a museum to preserve African-American literature.
His stories, written in his version of a slave dialect, were popular in his lifetime, and even Mark Twain was said to have loved the man and his work (this, of course, was someone who didn’t really like anybody, so it’s no small accomplishment). The next generations were very uncomfortable with some of the writer’s comments, along with the stereotypes that are inherent in the work.
However, the recent wave has reclaimed his stories as a very important literature in the history of the country, and in the history of African-American storytelling in general. Uncle Remus is once again recognized as a very elemental trickster figure, that demonstrates a kind of revolution and repetition of stories that are very old, and have been passed down through slave voices in new ways. It makes for some very interesting ways of looking at history, and a tour of the museum is amazingly eye-opening.
This is a point where history and culture can merge with art, and visitors to the city staying at Atlanta boutique hotels can enjoy getting to know the deeper histories that run through this part of the world.
There have been many great tennis players who have become international stars due to their skill, championship titles, and sometimes their personal charm or on and off court behaviors. Tennis is a complete obsession for some people and they don’t even have to play the game to bee a fan. Everyone who enjoys the game has their favorite player, and this is actually one sport where favorites are not always associated with their home base. Of course there remains a tendency to be supportive of your home grown pros, but players who achieve the ranks of the Williams sisters, Roger Federer, Pete Sampras and others, are respected and loved, though of course sometimes quite the opposite, with people from around the world.
The International Tennis Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization that is devoted to remembering and honoring the greats of the game. It is located in New Port, Rhode Island and serves as one of the most popular attractions of the city. It is hosted by and exists in the New Port Casino. The Casino itself was commissioned in 1880 and the hall of fame museum was founded in 1954. The building is one of the city’s examples of Victorian Architecture, and the majority of these are well preserved and part of the neighborhood’s fabulous atmosphere.
The first inductees into the hall of fame achieved their status in 1955 and the original intention was to shrine the ideals of the game, as was determined by James Van Alen who was the museum’s founder. The museum possesses one of the best collections of tennis memorabilia and various artifacts in the world. Over 19 countries have players included in the list of inductees and some of the memorabilia contains player photographs, tennis equipment, videos of player highlights from past championships such as Wimbledon tennis and others from the Grand Slam and those from the lower level tier.
Slept in this morning, it was my third day in Denver. I wasn’t out of bed until 8am. I woke up once in the night wondering where I was, it took me about a minute to remember I was in a hotel room. I barely managed to catch the complimentary breakfast before it closed. I was lucky to find this place online at this site , a day before I came to Denver. I’m meeting an old friend of mine from high-school, who lives in Fort Collins, at the Denver Zoo by 10:30am. She wanted me to meet her little girl, which I haven’t seen since she was born.
We both thought that meeting at the Zoo by 10:30 would be easy and we could also have time to enjoy parts of the City Park before we entered the zoo. But, we were totally wrong, by the time I got to the Zoo and it was really packed. So packed that the parking garage was closed because it was full. Luckily, I saw someone leave, so I pulled in to that parking spot. My friend and her daughter weren’t so lucky. They ended up having to park far away and walk quite a distance to the Zoo entrance. It was 11am by the time we met at the front of the Zoo. After officially meeting her daughter and many exchanges of how much we missed each other, we decided to give up on the City Park and just go into the Zoo.
The Denver Zoo, fortunately is very huge, so it didn’t seem that crowded inside. The zoo has some very nice outdoor and indoor exhibits. I really appreciated the indoor exhibits, because of the snowy weather and I’m sure the desert animals did too! We saw half of the zoo and decided it was time to have lunch. Afterwards, we continued along through the zoo and hopped on the carousel and the train before her daughter fell asleep. We finished up the zoo while she slept, including seeing the Lorikeet exhibit. It was near the end of the day, so the birds weren’t interested in feeding from the cups of nectar all the little children offered. It was funny to watch all the children still try to feed the birds. They would stick their cup right up in the Lorikeets face, and they didn’t give up even after a few bird bit back.
By the time 5pm rolled around, her daughter woke up and I walked them both back to their car, I would’ve drove them, but I didn’t have a child’s seat. We decided to meet over at my hotel and grab a bite to eat before they had to drive back to Fort Collins. During dinner we both agreed to stay in better touch with each other, and for the life of us, we couldn’t figure out why we were lapse in the first place.
It’s not surprising to discover that Austin has a very lively cafe culture. This seems like the very perfect city where the coffee shops would be filled with alternative types from all walks of life, enjoying spending part of a day, or sometimes all of it, whiling away the time over cups of freshly brewed coffees, and discussing art, politics, and culture. There’s a lot to talk about in Austin, and I’m always excited when I have any excuse to go. There are great places to stay, and plenty of exciting, or relaxing, things to do all over the city. Some visitors like to take in the museums and galleries, spend some time outdoors by the lake, or enjoying any number of local attractions.
I like to try to fit in with the locals, and I always feel like I’ve succeeded in my mission when someone asks me for directions. Some cities make me nervous about directions, but here it’s a chance to get to talk to someone new, and there’s a sense that even if the directions are wrong, it won’t matter all that much. The locals seem to be very particularly devoted to a pace of life that is just a little bit easier, and makes a conscious effort to make room for multiple levels of randomness. Wandering the streets is always fun, and it’s even better when the wandering ends at a place like the Spiderhouse Cafe.
This coffee shop has all the usual things that a great independent coffee house can offer, but with some very distinct Austin touches. For one thing, it’s very reasonable. They occasionally have unbelievable deals, like drip coffee for a dollar in the morning. It’s also open early and they stay open late, until 2am. This gives me the opportunity to see the culture in action. The morning shift might have some of the same people from the night before, but chances are, they won’t be in again until later. Later, however, it turns from coffee house to indie pub, with live art and free movies. You can get tips about local bands playing the eclectic and indefinable Austin sound, or you can just hole up hear and hear what might be playing in the house.
Liev Schreiber is an American actor who has become a household name for major Broadway fans. He is an incredibly talented and critically recognized theatre actor who is also successful and skilled in other genres such as film. He recently made his debut as a film director with his work on Everything is Illuminated, which he also wrote. He is incredibly popular with theatre audiences and has had an amazingly successful recent span of years on Broadway, though he much of his early work was on independent films.
He is currently starring in a production of Arthur Miller’s A View From the Bridge at the Cort Theatre on West 48th Street. Scarlett Johansson is starring opposite Schreiber and it is reported that they make an incredible onstage team. Their character relationship is of a double orientation. It is familial based though it develops into an incredibly controversial nature through the course of the play. This is one of Miller’s examples of creating amazing suspense though most of the play is laid out in advance and there are really no surprises in the script.
Schreiber recently won a Tony Award for his Broadway efforts. He received the coveted stage actor’s award in 2005 for his work on David Mamet’s play Glengarry Glenn Ross. This was another incredibly edgy and suspenseful script, something Mamet is well known for. This play takes place, to a large extent, in a Chicago real estate office and deals with corruption and competition in that field. The play was written in 1982 and had its original Broadway premiere in March of 1984. The revival production, which starred Schreiber, was incredibly successful both critically and with the audiences, and a large number of them were in town staying at one of the hotels in New York and were lucky enough to catch that show.
