Most people who have a problem with substance abuse don’t feel they need help and avoid the conversation about getting help. But, just going to rehab, spending a few weeks detoxing and talking about what got people to where they are today, isn’t the end of being an alcoholic. This is only the beginning. Good drug rehab centers are safe environments where people can share what is going on with them. Getting back out into the real world is bound to trigger some old way of thinking and feeling that could lead someone back to drinking or using again.
One of the biggest triggers could be the people that one is spending time with. It is always hard for other people to understand that their influence could be causing hardship for their friend or loved one in recovery. It is really important for people recovering from alcohol addition and other substance abuse to be surrounded by people who won’t trigger a relapse. An addict should not be around people who are drinking. They should not be buy alcohol for anyone. Best case scenario is that they are not even in the same room with alcohol. It is time to find places and thing to do that don’t involve alcohol. That is so hard to do because it may mean walking away from old friendships or even worse, family members.

This may have been one of the major reasons for someone to start drinking in the first place. Stressful days at work, money problems, relationship difficulties, horrifying memories and self confidence are always going to be things that one will have to deal with. They are major triggers for people who are recovering and sadly they will always have to be dealt with, whether, one is drunk or not. At least if one is sober, they have a fighting chance to make things right in their world and live to enjoy it.
